SONGS FOR FALL

Fall, for me, is a bittersweet season. The excitement of the Halloween and beautiful changing nature is tampered by shorter days and colder temperatures. This playlist is an attempt at both capturing those feelings, along with some more upbeat songs to counteract the negative aspects. I'll be highlighting three songs from each playlist that I feel encapsulate the intention of the set. The first highlight from this playlist is "Cascades" by Denai Moore from her album "Modern Dread", released in 2020. A big part of the transition to fall for me has always been looking at the Cascade mountains through crisp, cool pacific northwest air. "Cascades" not only connects to this memory in title, but also in its overall feeling. The song has bubbly instrumentals but Moore's voice keeps the song mellow and perfect for playing in the car while driving past trees full of autumn leaves. Fall brings beautiful change to our landscape, but for many it also brings stressful routine change. School starts up again, leaving even those out of school feeling a little wound up. The second highlight of this mix is "Hard Times" by Paramore off of the album "After Laughter", released in 2017. Once again, the title here is a little on the nose, what can I say? I enjoy specificity. Regardless, this song is incredibly danceable and fun, great for shaking out the extra anxiety that might find us this time of year. The final highlight is the song that I built the rest of the playlist off of. Bendigo Fletcher is a band close to my heart, I'll recommend their discography until I can't anymore and their song "Buffalo Rodeo" captures exactly the sort of beautiful melancholy that is Fall in my mind. From their album "Fits of Laughter", released August 2021, "Buffalo Rodeo" feels like the best parts of the season. Sitting by the fire after a cold day, holding hands with a loved one walking through the leaves, a cup of cider after finding the perfect pumpkin. I don't know that Bendigo Fletcher intended any of this when they put this song together, but try playing this track with a warm beverage on a cozy morning and I think you'll find the song to fit like a glove (or mitten). Fall is my favorite season, I created this playlist with the hopes that anyone could play this music and find the same appreciation for this time of year.

Have a nice Fall, see you next trip!
